Research Interests

My principal research interests lies in the sedimentology, diagenesis and petrophysical properties of non-marine carbonates with a particular interest in microbialite deposits within these environments, overall integrated with numerical forward and static modelling. My future research plans consist of developing and encouraging such integrated studies through the study and comparison of ancient and modern non-marine carbonate and microbialite deposits, analogues of South-Atlantic petroleum reservoirs. The characterisation of environmental controls helps to improve proposed facies models for non-marine carbonates while the morphological characterisation of microbial mounds helps to understand their palaeoenvironmental significance within these complex systems. This will result in a better understanding of environmental controls (such as hydrology, water chemistry, tectonic) on the deposition of non-marine carbonates, facies distribution and microbial growth in such environments. This will involve field campaigns worldwide, sedimentology, diagenesis, geochemistry, sequence stratigraphy and structural analysis to be replaced at a larger-scale in basinal settings. Potential field areas are modern lacustrine environments on the western coast of Australia (Rottnest Island, Lake Richmond, Lake Clifton, Lake Thetis, and others), on the eastern coat of Brazil (Lagoa Salgada), in USA (Great Salt Lake, Utah; Green Lake, New York). The integration with numerical modelling results in a better constraint of these controls and the enhancement of predictive value of models.
